Cool hooded vest

Spring has come to Australia. While the sun is nice and warm, the wind can still be chilly. Days are getting longer and warmer, but nights are still cool.

Little Monkey and I love going to playgrounds and parks. Her denim Little Red Riding Hood jacket still fits just fine, but I wanted to make her something else. She is an adventurous little girl, and her clothes needs to be washed often. She needed something that could be layered, something that would shield her from the wind but would not be too hot to wear in the sun. I loved the vests that Suz and Jen made for their daughters. They both used The Woolen Vest, a free pattern by Little Kiwis Closet. I thought a little vest like that would be perfect for our early spring!

So, While she was sleeping, I made a hooded vest for my Little Monkey.

Gotta love a garment that can be sewn in one night and warn the next day!

I used fleece for the outer layer and quilting cotton for lining. Large wooden buttons completed the look.

Little Monkey chose fabric for the lining and was happy to show it off during the photo-shoot. When we returned home Little Monkey didn't want to take her new vest off. We had pizza for dinner that night, and it was fun watching Little Monkey flick crumbs off her vest, she tried her best to keep in clean!

I love the hemline, the rounded edges and the shape of the hood. Lydia has done a terrific job designing this pattern. It was a fun quick sew, and the result is funky, practical and comfortable. This is a perfect vest for active little monkeys.

Thank you Lydia for sharing this wonderful pattern with the sewing community!

    1. Thank you! My husband said it almost looked store bought, but bright lining and large buttons gave away the fact it was handmade - I am glad they did hehe

    1. September is even 'funnier' in Vic Pam! We go from 20 to 12-14, from sun to rain and cold wind, from warm nights to overnight frost... But Spring is definitely here :) Well, at least most days hehe

    1. Thank you for normalising my experience Teresa haha LM's friend drew a picture of her as a present once, and she drew her with the tongue out, because "LM has her tongue out a lot" hahaha
