Autumn is here. A season of long walks, crunchy leaves and comfy cardigans. OK it is only the second day of Autumn, and it doesn't even feel like Autumn yet, however I decided to be organised and made a Catherine cardigan for Miss L.
The Catherine cardigan pattern is the new release from my friend Suz of Sewpony. As always with Sewpony patterns, this pattern offers a number of very clever options that make is perfect for any season and occasion.
My plan was to make a cardi that my little love would be able to wear when one needs an extra layer, but nothing heavy or overly warm.
I originally was going to make a cardigan with long sleeves with cuffs, but then decided to skip the cuffs and shorten the sleeve by 2 cm so they look more like 7/8 length rather than long sleeves.
I couldn't decide if I wanted buttons to go all the way down the placket or just a couple at the top. I pulled out a few buttons that I thought would go nice with the cardi, and noticed a wooden button of a perfect shape and size. It has a natural stain on a side which gives it so much character! I had a perfect button, only one button, so that's what I went with.
I used a small piece of french terry I adopted from a remnant bin at my local Spotlight a few years ago for this cardigan. French terry is very easy to sew and comfy to wear. I love the colour of this fabric. It is neutral enough to go with many pieces in Miss L's wardrobe.
It was very windy while we were taking photos. I was lucky to capture a peek of a dress Miss L wore that day. It is Debbie's Birthday dress I made for my big girlie, Miss R, when she just turned three years old. This dress marked the beginning of Suz's pattern making adventure and my love for her designs. The pattern is not available for sale presently.
Back to the Catherine cardi though. It was such a fun project! This pattern has sweet details like gentle gathers on the back which allow for freedom of movement, gathered sleeves and I just love the shape of the neckline. I think this cardi will look great on small kids like my little mischief as well as older girls. Tinne, one of the blog tour participants, hacked this pattern to make a cardi for her son! Check it out here. This pattern conveniently goes from size 12 months to 12 years.
During the blog tour Suz offers a 15% discount on the Catherine cardigan pattern with the code CATHERINE15. The pattern is available in English and Dutch, and can be purchased HERE.
A group of very talented ladies are also participating in the tour. Please visit them to see their take on the Catherine cardigan pattern. Blog tours provide a great opportunity to see a pattern sewn in different sizes and various fabrics. So enjoy browsing and happy sewing!
