Syrah skirt and an Uptown/Downtown top

A few weeks before Christmas Miss R and I had a very deep conversation.
Me: Would you like a special dress for Christmas?
Miss R: Oh yes!

So, naturally, I made a new skirt for myself. And a top to go with it. 'Selfish sewing' at its best!

I used The Syrah skirt pattern again. I sewed this pattern twice already (see here and here). For this skirt I cut into my precious Froy and Dind knit from MaaiDesign (unfortunately this print is sold out). I made the skirt in size 10 without any modifications. It fits me like a glove.

I used white jersey also from MaaiDesign for the top. The top is a modified bodice of the Uptown/Downtown dress. The fabric behaved slightly differently to Froy and Dind knit I used to make the dress, so the top ended up on a slightly snug side around the bust. You live, you learn. I know different knits behave differently, so will take that into account next time I use a new to me knit. Still, this top is wearable and is super comfy.

This selfish sewing business is highly addictive! I get an enormous sense of satisfaction from making simple things I can wear every day. Even when they are far from perfect.

  4. Well, I you ask me, I think they are pretty perfect; they have a nice fitting, you made them yourself and you're living in it.
Nice one, by the way, "you live you learn" ;)
