You know you hit jackpot when your precious picky customer does not want to take a new item off!!! I attribute three aspects to success of this project. First is the pattern. One has to use a well drafted pattern with clear instructions to make a well fitted and comfy outfit. For R's night and morning dresses I used the All you need jammies pattern by Heidi & Finn. I don't think I will need another jammies pattern in a hurry. All you need jammies has so many options! A nightgown, a top or a gathered shirt and a pair of wide or slim pants; short sleeve, 3/4 or long sleeve; cuffs or no cuffs. The same pattern can be used to make everyday tees, leggings and dresses. This was my first experience sewing with Heidi & Finn patterns and I was very pleased!
I feel I am gaining more confidence sewing knits. These night and morning dresses were very easy to make. I sewed most of these dresses on the overlocker and only used my sewing machine to hem the sleeves and the bottom of the skirts and to gather the skirts before sewing them onto the bodices.
R chose the brightly printed fabric herself. It was a case of 'I am not leaving the shop without this fabric'. One can say R is stubborn. I prefer to say she is persistent. The fabric was on sale, so I bought a couple of metres.
The third aspect is comfort. Just what you want from your jammies! Oh, sorry, your night and morning dresses ;)
R has EXCELLENT taste in fabric and I love her night and morning dresses :D
ReplyDeleteThank you Kate :) I htink I need to consult her regarding fabrics for things for myself! She is natural!
DeleteSuch sweet dresses for one sweet little girl! And of course they are morning and night dresses <3 You can tell her that sometimes I wear my night dresses during the day, too -- sssshhh! ;)
ReplyDeleteOh I think there should be a rule that people can wear their jammies whenever they want to - even to work!
DeleteI think this could me by pattern to debut sewing with knit! Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteGood luck! I avoided knits for so long! Silly me - they are not that scary! Although the palms of my hands still get sweaty when I sew them!
Delete'Night and morning dresses' - that is so sweet! And of course in knits they must be super-comfy. I've admired that bird print in Spotlight; your daughter's choice of fabric is very funky and looks great on her!
ReplyDeleteThank you Marisa. Spotty has some nice prints every now and then :) I just wish their fabric had better stretch and recovery...
DeleteThose are beautiful night and day dresses! Great fabric choices, love them both! Now, where did get that stubbornness from? My girl got it from me ;) I say that is better than giving up easy!
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, I don't see stubbornness as a bad thing. Well, it is annoying yeah, but with some (OK a lot of) gentle guidance this quality can grow into persistence, which is great to have!
DeleteThe "night and morning" dresses (love that name for them!) look so cozy. I really like the fabrics, and the fit is perfect.
ReplyDeleteThank you Masha :) R comes up with the funnies nicknames for things and people! It is finally warming up in my corner of the world (this week is an exception) so I will have to make a short sleeve version of the night and morning dress soon :)
DeleteI have to agree with R on this one! To me, they totally could be daytime wear. I love this pattern. Nice photos, too!
