Around the world blog hop

Lovely Jane from Lil Pip invited me to participate in the Around the World Blog Tour, and I was happy to jump on board! So, let's get to it! Feel free to click on photos if you want to read about projects.

What am I working on?
I am currently working on curtains for my daughter's room. Four months ago we bought a new house (literally). It is beautiful, light, airy. I love it. When we first saw it I felt at home. Now we are slowly but surely making it our home. I have been looking for ready made curtains to put in Little Monkey's room for a long time, but I could not see a design or a price tag that I liked, so decided to make them myself. I have been working on this project for almost two months. I start and stop, then start and stop again. I like to start and finish a project, so I am getting annoyed at myself for progressing so slowly this time. I am nearly there though!

How does my work differ from others in my genre?
I don't think what I do is different from anyone else. I just make things that make my daughter and I happy. It really is that simple.

Why do I write / create what I do?
I write about things I create, and I create things because it makes me happy. My daughter is custom sized. She is tall and skinny. Finding ready made clothes that fits her well can be a challenge, however I can make her pants that fit well around her bum and are long enough. I can make her a dress that fits her around the chest and is not too short. When I finish a project I have this feeling of accomplishment. What once was a pile of fabric is now an item of clothing, and it fits my daughter perfectly.

Since I started blogging I realised I wanted to learn more, push myself further, gain new skills, try new things. This year I started sewing for myself. It is very exciting! Well, it is if you are a sewing addict, and I sure am! This blog is a record of my achievements and lessons learned. I have also made great friends through blogging, the type of friends you can talk about life, not just sewing.

How does my writing / creating process work?
Once I manage to settle on a project (does anyone else go through the agony of picking one thing out of about a hundred things on the I-want-to-make-this list?), I often get in the zone. Sometimes I struggle to stop until I finish whatever it is I am making (with curtains being an exception). I cut out pattern pieces and decide to quickly sew shoulder seams. Then I think that I can also sew the side seams and the neckline. And then sleeves... and before I know it I am hemming a new outfit... and it is well past midnight. Oops!

I put a new outfit where Little Monkey can easily spot it in the morning. I love seeing her reaction when she notices it. I love to observe how she admires and investigates her new outfit.

Photography is my least favourite part of blogging. I am not good at it, and chasing Little Monkey taking gazillion photos hoping that at least a few will end up blog-worthy can be frustrating. But we usually manage just fine. One of my goals is to get better at photography. I will start working on it as soon as I finish curtains ;)

Now, are you ready to make new friends? Then please say hi to Nat from Sew Outnumbered and Renee from Nearest the pin. Natalie is a mum to two adorable boys. She makes gorgeous things for herself and her sons. Renee is not only my sewing friend, she is also a real life friend. She also sews for herself and her gorgeous kids, a boy and a girl.

  1. I love reading more about you! And I love that you included the blue dress with an apple button and a pocket because that outfit is when I started to follow you! <3 I know you chose it just for me (xaxa) I think your photography is great, maybe it's because LM is so photogenic?!

    1. Thank you Alisa, Your comments are always so encouraging and uplifting :) That blue dress is one of my fave makes ever. It is a bit tight on LM now... maybe I should replicate it?

  2. I think what make you & your blog different Jenya (and why I like reading) is just how much care and attention you put into making an outfit just as LM would like it - adding the touches that she loves and NEVER taking shortcuts (as I would). Thanks for inviting me to participate :)

  3. Lovely to get to know you a bit better Jenya! I'm impressed you're making curtains - that would have to be one of my least favourite sewing jobs haha!! I struggle with the photography too - in fact I have about 4 unblogged makes that are sitting waiting to be photographed!! Thanks again for asking me to participate :)

  5. Oh, my goodness! We are so much alike! I have fabric to make curtains that I haven't even started, and I am slowly recovering the seats of my dining room chairs. I love to sew and like you, love to finish it from start to stop! It's great getting to know you better, Jenya, as I have been admiring your work for some time.

    1. Thank you Veronica. Love meeting like-minded people! Yeah I can't stand things just sitting there. These curtains are driving me mad... Well, not the curtains, I am frustrated with myself for taking so long and using any excuse to not do it right now.

  6. Just wanted to come over to thank you for the nice comments that you left on some of my posts. I'm really glad you like my stuff. Your makes for yourself and LM are always so perfect so I'm happy that you like what I make... Also how fun is it that I just at the moment posted my "entry" for this blog hop? In fact when I saw your comments, I was like "Uh, I could have asked Jenya to be the next one". Well, I guess you wouldn't have wanted to write the same post 2 weeks later ;)

  7. I am EXACTLY the same as you when I get in THE ZONE. I just can't stop. I fight sleep like a child, until I finish what I'm working on and realise it's 4 o'clock in the morning.

    Got those curtains finished yet?

    1. 4 am? Boy I have never stayed up that late since I became a mum! You are a machine! I don't even feel super tired when I am in the zone, but I do realise that once I am done... Yes curtains finished and hanging in LM's room :)
