Pizza dress

Kids see things in such a fun way! What do you see when you look at the print of Miss R's new dress? She insists they are small pieces of pizza. As soon as she said that I could see it too, and once I saw it I could not un-see it!

I bought this fabric to make the Lotta skirt for myself, but soon after I discovered I was pregnant. I decided to wait until the baby was born. Well, I didn't get to use this fabric for myself. Miss R saw it, gave it a spot on description and requested a pizza dress.

I am not sure if my original plan for this fabric influenced the choice of a pattern for a 'pizza dress' for Miss R. It is... Yep, that's right. It is the Lotta dress! I have used this pattern three times previously (here, here and here). It is very safe to assume I like this pattern ;)

I have been struggling choosing sizes for both of my girls recently. You see, Miss L is growing so fast, which is absolutely normal for a toddler. However for some reason I think that Miss R is growing just as fast. Well, she does not. Miss R's chest measurement puts her in size 4, however I got worried she would grow out of the dress before summer ends and made size 5 width with size 6 length. Go ahead and laugh if you have to, I won't mind :) What are the chances this dress will still fit Miss R next summer?

I am trying to be more disciplined with my fabric purchases and use what I already have. My degree of success varies somewhat haha I did well with this dress though. I had pink voile left after making the Ileana dress for Miss R that matched the pink of the pizza fabric so well! Buttons came from my stash also.

This is such a quick and cute dress to make. I love the small details like the collar and this particular view of the pockets. Combined with the capped sleeves, this is Miss R's favourite version of this dress.

Now Miss R's pizza dress turned out pretty sweet I am wondering if I have any more food related prints in my stash :)

  4. Love it: the dress, fabric, brigjt colors, pics, and - last but not least - the way kids look to the world around them as your girl confirms ♡

  8. Pizza! That is so cute! And these photos are gorgeous! I love them! That last photo has such a nostalgic feel!

I always, always go by the chest measurement even when it is way off. For example, in the last dress I made for Ind (the O+S hide and seek dress) I sewed a size 7 in the chest and a size 12 + in the length and then I use the slash and spread method. But that never fails me. My kids usually have a big difference between the chest size and the length size. The only thing to keep in mind is that you might need to add length to the bodice, which is something I occasionally forget to do!

    1. Thank you Rachel :) Yes I usually do the same adjustments for Miss R. She is not too tall, but she is skinny.

  9. My advice for my own patterns is to choose a size 4 if her chest measurement is really this small... But now that you picked a larger size, I think you should keep a small piece of the pink fabric aside. You can always lengthen the dress by adding a contrasting hem band. :) Love the result a lot by the way! :)
